| As a tool to evaluate the primary school students'performance on Chinese, the Chinese Graduate Text for Primary School (CGTPS) not only plays an importance role in telling the truth about students'knowledge, ability on Chinese, but also directs the development of how to teach the primary school students to learn Chinese. From this point of view, understanding the history of CGTPS can make a great help for the development of teaching and learning for both the primary Chinese teachers and students.Since the birth of our new nation, the value of CGTPS has been changed a lot. The main point has been put on student's knowledge, ability before and then on humanistic qualities now, which reflect different requirement of the CGTPS on students'ability of Chinese. Based on the changing of test value, the form and the content of the test have also been developed, although the structure (composed of basic knowledge, reading and writing) remained the same. On the aspect of basic knowledge, the developmental trend is as follows:test on course content-indirect test on the combination of on course and out course content-comprehensive test for life. For reading, the changing is from comprehensive understanding of articles to paying attention to details of articles and then to asking students to experience the feeling of the articles both on or out of the class. As for writing, the changing is from writing for a given title to free writing and between. All the changing reflects the development of the Chinese teaching syllabus and standard for primary school.However, the test remained to be developed. The test based on humanistic qualities puts too much value on students'feelings and neglects the values of students' knowledge and competence, therefore it has much subjective content. The test structure is not without question. The basic knowledge as an independent part in the test can't tell the true performance of students. The reading part can't test students' reading ability. The writing test can't improve students' writing competency due to putting too much exercise on the writing technique. All these problems block the development of Chinese learning and teaching. So CGTPS has to be reformed.Based on the experience from foreign country and our own practice, we provide some reforming plans of CGTPS. As for the test value, it should be consensus with course standard. That is it has to have multiple goals that can balance humanity and instrument in Chinese learning. Reading should be as important as writing in the test form and content. Basic knowledge needn't to be an independent test part and should be included in the test of reading and writing. The test for reading and writing should be more practical. In one word, in order to improve the quality of CGTPS, the form and content of the test should be more scientific and reasonable. |
