The higher education in China has expanded remarkably against the background of the massification of higher education. The problem, employment of the university students, becomes the focal point that society shows solicitude for. Local colleges and universities are the agents that train high-caliber and talented persons to work for our country, and also the main body which takes charge of university students'education about employment. Therefore, how to effectively carry out the vocational education activities, to guide university students to set up correct views of choosing a job, to properly carry out an occupation plan, to improve abilities of obtaining employment, and to develop a good employment quality for realizing the developmental employment goals, have already become the important subjects that vocational counseling in local colleges and universities must research.In view of the practical circumstances in our country, nearly all the higher education institutions have set up its Employment Guidance Department, providing vocational guidance and service for students. In spite of this, currently the prospect of graduates'employment is still dim, which relates to the quality of the employment guidance in higher education to some extent. Only satisfying employment guidance can have good effect on employment, on the basis of which the writer decides to make a research on the actual effect of employment guidance in higher education institutions, and uses case analytical method to investigate and analyze S University in Shanghai, so as to know the actual situation of local higher education institutions, to improve effectiveness of employment guidance and to justify the improvement of graduates'current employment situation. This paper is composed of six chapters:Chapter One: Introduction, mainly states the research background, the current research situation and its significance, and defines the relevant concepts.Chapter Two: The Real Necessity of Employment Guidance in Higher Education Institutions. This chapter elaborates the necessity of vocational counseling in higher education institutions in several aspects, employment system and policy and reality needs, based on the development process of the employment guidance in higher education institutions.Chapter Three: Research Subject and Research Method. This chapter briefly describes the research subject and makes a specific statement on the research method and its process.Chapter Four: Mainly illustrates the general situation of S University in Shanghai and the main work of its employment guidance; then analyzes its characteristics.Chapter Five: Analyzing the effectiveness of employment guidance of S University in Shanghai.By means of questionnaires and interviews, it summarizes the specific effects of employment guidance in S University in Shanghai from three perspectives—students'enthusiasm for participating in employment guidance activities, changes of students'quality in choosing jobs and students'satisfaction with the employment guidance.Chapter Six: Reasons for and strategies to inefficiency of employment guidance in local colleges and universities. Suggested in the analysis of employment guidance in S University of Shanghai, it summarizes the primary reasons for the inefficiency of employment guidance in local colleges and universities, and according to the research results puts forward some relevant measures to improve the actual effects of the employment guidance.
