The new course reformation of high school in Shannxi was conducted in September, 2007, correspondingly, the NCEE has to be reformed to adapt to and guide the new course reformation of high school. Therefore this research will probe into the link between the reformation of college entrance examination and new course reformation of high school. The research will be conducted from three dimensions, that is, theoretical exploration, analysis of course reformation from home and abroad and the case study of new course reformation in Shannxi. Based on the theoretical analysis and practice of course reformation, this research is expected to provide proposals for the reformation of NCEE along with the new course reformation in Shannxi, and it also proposes a three-stage model for NCEE. The first two stages are based on previous studies in this field and experience of the course reformation. The third stage uses the link between the majors in universities and subjects in high school as the base. Through the survey of questionnaires and interviews, statistics are collected and analyzed. According to the analysis of the statistics, the conclusion concerning the relationship between the majors in universities and subjects in high school is generalized.Currently the research abroad within this field is concerned with optional examination, but it doesn't explore the relevance between majors in universities and subjects in high schools. For instance, there is no such optional examination in SAT II in US. The examination covers such subjects as Writing, Literature, American History and Social Studies, European History and Social Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French, German, Spanish, Latin and Russian. Students are allowed to select three subjects in terms of their levels, but English and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. In Japan the first round and second round examination are both optional examinations. The first round examination is within the fields of Japanese, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Social and Natural Science. In all there are 30 subjects of which students can select 1-6 subjects. The second round examination is designed by universities for the major test including 1-4 subjects. Part of the subjects are the optional courses in high school, while the other part is designed according to a particular major. This examination is designed in terms of majors, but it dose not specified to the link between majors in universities and courses in high school. The college entrance examination in Taiwan is optional examination with subjects designed according to majors. However, students are required to choose 3-6 subjects from those like Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History. In main land, the NCEE of Guangdong is characterized by designing the examinations according to different majors in universities. It categorizes the majors in university into seven types, that is, Philosophy, Economics, Law, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, and Management. Each category requires tests for different subjects in high school. However, the NCEE of Guangdong treats the subject as the smallest unit to be to tested, thus the tested contents are not specified to the very complete unit of each subject. In this research, due to the close relationship among components of systematic knowledge of each major, if the subject is used as the smallest unit in examinations, then the student's real expectation for certain major will not be examined and meanwhile the burden of students will be increased. The analysis of the questionnaire reveals that there is a intimate relationship between the science and engineering majors and subjects of high school. This thesis is composed of five parts. The first part is the introduction in which the significance of this research, literature review, methods and innovation are presented. The second part theoretically explores the link between the reformation of NCEE and new course reformation of high school. It probes into interaction between the reformation of NCEE and new course reformation of high school from the aspect of evolution of high school courses and NCEE since the establishment of PRC. Being faced with the reformation of NCEE, the high school courses should be alternated in order to be in line with the reformation of NCEE which should adapt, promote and guide new course reformation. The agreement of the two reformations should reflect the features of the optional examination. The transfer should be made form testing knowledge to ability, from testing the results of learning to the test of leaning process. At the same time, the balance should be maintained among different subjects required by the school, local and national educational agencies. The differences among subjects and different methods of testing should also be aware of.The third part is devoted to assessment of the high school courses and college entrance examination in US, Japan and Taiwan. In US the high school courses are basically agreed with the entrance examination to universities. The examinations are not completely linked to high school courses and some subjects are not included in the college entrance examinations. In Japan the examination is generally in accordance with the school courses which are divided into two sections, the basic subjects and major courses. Correspondingly, the examinations are composed of tests for basic courses and major courses. Generally speaking, the knowledge to be tested is correspondent to school courses. Both the examinations and courses are optional. In Taiwan, the content of examination is not fully correspondent to school courses though there is certain relationship between the two. The optional examinations include the required subjects and optional ones. Due to the consideration of major courses, the examinations are more likely to test students more specifically. This kind of examination can reflect the integrated features students. The fourth part is dedicated to the interpretation of the new plans of NCEE in some regions of China and exploration of the link between the reformation of NCEE and the reformation of high school courses. The last part is a case study of Shannxi which tests the results of this research. In this section, firstly through interviews of the present high school teachers the views and suggestions on reformations of NCEE and high school courses are collected. All the interviewed teachers have offered assistance to the future research. Based on the above research, the author proposes a three-stage College Entrance Examination. A questionnaire is designed for the students majoring in science and engineering. The analysis of the results leads to parameters of the link between certain major and high school courses which will be instructive to the optional college entrance examinations designed in terms of majors. |
