Current College Students In Volunteer Activities And Countermeasures

Volunteer service in our country has achieved extraordinary accomplishment over decades of development, during which college students, the main power of volunteering groups, offered substantial services in areas such as poverty reduction, education, environmental protection, medicine & sanitation, elder-helping, handicapped-helping, security maintenance, legal assistance and large-scale campaigns, etc. These college volunteers not only display to the whole world the elegant demeanor of Chinese college students, but also play a positive role in making up for our country's social security, maintaining the social stability and safety, and providing services for the economic construction and social morality establishment. Thus their practices mean a lot to building a harmonious socialist society and promoting human progress.However, college students' volunteer activities in our country are confronted with numerous difficulties. For example, college students' volunteer activities failing to receive high social recognition, legislation concerning volunteer services still on the beginning stage, volunteer groups lacking sufficient organization, training, administration and means in collecting funds. These problems severely inhibit the development of college students' volunteer activities in China. In order to help college students' volunteer activities walk out of the difficult situations, we have to create a favorable atmosphere. The society should show great concern and assistance, and colleges & universities should improve the administrative mechanism. At the same time, college student volunteers should focus on their self-perfection and self-development, and enhance their service quality to promote the further and stable development of volunteer service.I begin this thesis with the generation and development of college students' volunteer activities in our country. Through analyzing data gathered from investigations and interviews, I conclude the origination and development of college students' volunteer services, as well as features and functions of college students' volunteer activities in our country. Finally I point out the major problems and propose my own solutions to solve them.
