Abstract/Summary:
Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is an influential language teaching approach put forward by language teaching researchers in the 1980s after tons of researches and practice. With the wide implementation of "English Curriculum Standards, TBLT has drawn much attention and been widely used in the circle of language teaching and research in China. However, most of the papers are concerned with the introduction of its theoretical background while localized researches are limited. This research is aimed at gaining some knowledge of the actual application of TBLT in senior high school English classroom teaching and maximizing the effectiveness of English classroom teaching by combining TBLT and traditional English teaching models. This paper first gives a discussion of the theoretical aspects of Task- based Language Teaching, including its origin and features, as well as a review of related researches both at home and abroad. And then, with the help of research instruments like questionnaire and interview the author of this paper tries to find out problems regarding teachers, textbook and students in an attempt to throw some light on the proper application and localization of TBLT in the senior high English classroom. Based on the analysis of the problems found out from the investigation, this researcher suggests a more practical teaching model, i.e. a combination of the major principles of TBLT with the 5P model, the further development of the more traditional 3P teaching model. Finally, some major lessons such as Reading, Task, and Project are designed accordingly in order to show the practicality and feasibility of the new model.
