At present, a new curriculum reform is being carried out in China and a complete curriculum reform in compulsory education has been widely put into effect. The new English Curriculum Standard highly advocates the use of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), so the adoption of TBLT in senior schools is of great significance. But what is the actual situation in the implementation of TBLT? In order to find out what is actually going on in English teaching in senior schools, the author conducted a research in the senior middle schools, the participants are 50 senior English teachers, who are in Nanchang city, poyang county, attach to it. The investigation was made by means of questionnaire, observations and interviews.The investigation involves the beliefs, quality of teachers, the actual implementation of TBLT & its necessity and the assessment. The result of the research shows that among the senior English teachers, 92 % the teachers under investigation consider it a good teaching model. However, it is a pity that only 22% of the teachers think they can use TBLT in classroom teaching. There are still many problems to be solved. These includes: (1) Teachers' ability is not great enough to apply TBLT successfully. (2) The assessment system and the NMET do not match the assessment system of TBLT.There are mainly five parts in this thesis.The first part is an introduction, which states indirectly the purpose, research background and significance of this study. The second section states the framework of the thesis.The second part is literature review, with emphasis on the theoretical basis of TBLT, task definition, task features, task types and teachers' role played in the TBLT classroom.The third part is the research methods. The author first introduces the survey process: the questionnaire design, questionnaire conducting, classroom observations, interviews. Then the relevant data was collected and analyzed.The fourth part states the statistical results of the survey and discussion of TBLT first. Then the author points out the advantages and disadvantages of TBLT, current serious problems influencing and solution to problems in the discussion.The fifth part comes up with the conclusion.
