High School Students Math Verbal Ability Study

If a person wants to deal with everything skillfully in such a modern society, he must have an ability to use the language so as to gain information and express his own opinion.The writer did some research on the following four questions according to questionnaire, testing and interview. 1) The acquaintance with oral expression in mathematics among students of grade one in senior high school.2) The attitude and acquaintance with oral expression in mathematics among Maths teachers in senior high school.3) The present state of oral expression in mathematics among students of grade one in senior high school.4) The strategy to improve the ability of oral expression in mathematics.The result includes three parts.First, students think it important to improve the ability of oral expression in mathematics. Most of the students show little confidence in it. Second, in teachers' opinion, it is also important to cultivate the ability of oral expression in mathematics. But the level is not outstanding. However, the ability has an active influence in teaching.Third, not all students can express their own opinions accurately. Different students adopt different expression strategies, but it makes much difference in the ability of using mathematics language.The writer analyzes the reasons for the present state to draw the following conclusions. First, students show slight confidence in oral expression, because the ability of oral expression isn't tested in college entrance examination directly. Due to the reason above all, students are short of the consciousness to practice actively. Second, the ability of mathematical thinking constrains the students' thoughts to express. Good students usually have better strategies, while the average students don't have the same level as them. Different students have an obvious difference in mathematics language, and some students have a poor ability in the language organization.Based on the above research, the writer states some suggestions on cultivating the oral expression in mathematics among senior high students at the end of the thesis.
