Mathematics problem solving ability is an important indicator of pupils'mathematical attainments. The training of pupils'ability to solve mathematical problems is one of the major goals of mathematics education in primary schools. Therefore, the development of pupils'problem solving ability has a core position in primary mathematics teaching activities. It is also the duty of every primary school math teacher.This paper aims to explore ways and methods of training through the discussions on pupils'mathematics problem solving ability which mainly based on case studies. The paper consists of four chapters: the first chapter gives clear definitions to the concepts of'problems','mathematical problems'and'mathematics problem solving'; the second chapter introduces the rising of attention paid to mathematics problem solving ability under new curriculum reform, and it expounds on the aspects of the nature and task of primary school mathematics curriculum as well as the importance attached to the training of pupils'ability to solve mathematical problems; the third chapter analyzes the current situation and determinants of pupils'mathematics problem solving ability; on the basis of previous analysis, the fourth chapter proposes the ways and methods of training pupils'mathematics problem solving ability: 1. to construct the classroom teaching which can improve pupils'ability to solve problems; 2. to create a good family atmosphere for developing pupils'mathematics problem solving ability; 3. to start problem solving ability training at an early age.
