The development of geographic education in China has changed a lot in the past twenty years. Reasons for those changes can be found in many aspects: the requirements of the development of society and country, the restriction of economic conditions, the factors in geography itself and so on. In terms of the geographical education, the tie between teachers and the subject of geography is the most direct and important factor which can decide whether the basic geographical education can develop healthily and smoothly.Along with the coming of post-industrial era and under the background of knowledge economy and information explosion, our country is on a new round of reform of foundation education. Through the exploration new curriculum, we have discovered that the roles of teachers in curriculum reform have been specially concerned. Our country has unprecedentedly emphasized the curriculum authority of ordinary teachers, vigorously guided teachers, as the main body of new curriculum, to actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of new curriculum.We all have reached a consensus that 'Teachers must participate in the evelopment of new curriculum'. However, from the practice of new curriculum in the past 3 years, we can see that the working situtaions of school geography teachers are disappointing and worrying. At present, it has become a problem with great concern and needing to be solved in basic geographical education that how we can turn the existing theories into reality and implement national curriculum.This essay starting with the current status of middle school geographic education,analyzes the real situation of teachers'participation in geography curriculum development,and deeply anatomizes the internal and external factors which have an effect on teachers'participation in curriculum development with the combination with the development of geographic education and various curriculum theories. It clearly points out that with the social progress and development of education, teachers must be one of the main bodies in curriculum development. Therefore,this essay creatively puts forward a specific measure both from the macroscopic and microscopic angles that is 'How to be a real main body in participation in curriculum development as a school geography teacher in his daily work'. It hopes to be a bridge between curriculum experts and ordinary teachers, which can integrate the development, implementation,evaluation and other links of new curriculum to be a unity of organic links.
