Method of student portfolio assessment, as one of means of qualitative evaluation, has gone into elementary-middle school classroom evaluation under the background of basic educational curriculum reform. This new method has its unique advantages in examining the course of study and embodying students' individuality which the examinations don't have.This research mainly uses investigation and documentary methodology. This paper points out that constructivism , multiple intelligence theory and metacognitive theory provide theoretical basis. Then discusses the value of portfolio assessment from being useful supplement of examinations and balancing the distortion because the single evaluation method. Using some opus coming from experimental area to show its advantages at verifying students' creating ability, emotion-attitude-value and mathematical consciousness. In order to undertaking portfolio assessment, then expounds the factors which impact the application including its own features , historical-cultural effect, evaluation conception and the study of relevance theory. According to varying examples, this paper offers some designing ideas .I wish this paper can do something to help the teachers to deal with the difficulty encountered in the course of using portfolio so that we can realize the portfolio assessment.
