The new curriculum's core idea is "Everything is done for the students' development". In the new reform of basic curriculum, it emphasizes that we should establish an assessment system, which can accelerate the improvement of each student, and help them become self-confidence. So during the assessment, we can't only pay attention to the students' scores, but also should care about their kinds of potential and needs. We should exert the educational function of the assessment. Nowadays, more and more people are pursuing developmental assessments, which are on the basis of process and concern about each student's progress and potential. "Learning portfolio assessment" becomes one of the main research projects in the domain of new type assessment.The paper analyzed and did much research on the use of portfolio assessment in middle school. It included six parts: the research on the theory of the Learning portfolio assessment, the research on the Learning portfolio assessment in China and abroad, the systemic analysis on the Learning portfolio assessment, the detailed component of the Learning portfolio assessment, the research on the practice of the Learning portfolio assessment, the analysis of the Learning portfolio assessment's results. At first, the author introduced what the portfolio assessment is, probing its value in middle school. And then through practicing it in the nine grades the author worked, finding how to operate it in detail. At last, this paper analyzed and compared several real cases form different points of views. After concluding the primary production of the research, the author pointed out the existent problems and his puzzlement, and hoped his research results can do some help to the new reform of the curriculum.Because of multitudinous causes, this paper lacked quantitative research, and didn't offer an operational strategy for the use of portfolio assessment in the entrance examination of the secondary school. In addition, this paper was short of a reasonable and convenient method for the operation and improvement of portfolio assessment. In conclusion, this research is only an elementary study on portfolio assessment; we will go on researching it in future.
