In latter stage of Qing dynasty, study abroad movement had a close relation with the changes of social ideas .In this thesis, I want to analyse the history of study abroad in latter stage of Qing dynasty by dialectic materialism and history materialism. In latter stage of Qing dynasty, the history of study abroad mostly include China children studying in U.S.A, the navy persons studying in Europe, students studying in Japan and in U.S.A. And I want to stud. e changes of social ideas during these periods. This primarily involves three aspects: the governors changed their ideas, students abroad changed their ideas and social public changed their ideas. I use the theory of education sociology to analyse these changes.In study abroad movement, even if the ideas of governors of Qing dynasty were conservative, still some changes happened. The attitude of governors toward study abroad changed. They didn't think that China is the center of the world any longer. They recognized the importance of science and technology. Some government officials thought study abroad was a good opportunity to absorb new knowledge. Because of studying abroad, the thoughts of students abroad changed greatly. Their thoughts of save the nation changed: from be loyal to emperor to be loyal to country, from save the nation by technology to by politics until by science. Some students abroad began to take part in revolution. Many women students abroad advocated feminism. Public threat study abroad movement from initial not realized to positive attended. We can found this from many aspects. And under the spread of students abroad, evolutionism became accept by public. From analyse the history, the study abroad movement direct or indirectly pushed the change of social ideas and thoughts.From analyzing the study abroad movement and the change of social ideas in latter stage of Qing dynasty by the theory of education sociology, we can found that there are close relation among education and economy and politics.
