Higher Economies Of Scale, Theoretical Research

Under the situation that the scale of institutions of higher education (IHEs) expands day by day, some IHEs demand perfection blindly, various kinds of problems have been appeared when some pursue scale merit. This thesis made a deep study about the problem of the scale merit of IHEs in china in terms of the cost theory. The research focuses mainly on the following points.1. This thesis has illustrated the background of the research as well as its significance; it has defined the relevant concept. On the basis of introducing domestic and international relevant research results briefly, and then it has put forward its own research approach and route.2. By introducing the realization of scale merit to American IHEs, this thesis has drawn much revelation that is of universal guiding and referential significance to IHEs in China.3. By introducing the cost theory, from the different angle of short-term cost, long-term cost and economies of scope, the thesis has explained the reason of the existence of scale merit of IHEs and has put forward the three respects of scale merit of IHEs, they are marginal earnings increasing in short-term, the economies of scale in long-term and the economies of scope under multi-product situation. On the basis of above, the thesis has explained some problems easily appeared while pursuing these three respects of scale merit of IHEs and has put forward the countermeasure that IHEs should adopt while realizing scale merit.4. The IHEs is a kind of organization engaged in many output activities, so the thesis has used the multi-product organization theory to assess the scale merit of IHEs, it has gave some criteria of marginal earnings increasing, the economies of scale and the economies of scope respectively.This thesis has offered a new path and method for researching scale merit of the IHEs, it has an important practical value on realizing scale merit smoothly for IHEs, it also has realistic significance for the development of IHEs.
