With the rapid development of modern information technology (IT), IT has found wider and deeper applications in today' s education. In my school, a campus network has been completed, with multimedia facilities equipped in each classroom and a laptop assigned to each teacher, paving the way for widespread multimedia and network learning and teaching. This research is an attempt to find ways for better and more effectively utilizing these modern equipments in vocational school physics and electromagnetics teaching.Categorically, this is an application research. It is chiefly based on experiments assisted by action method, surveys (including questionnaires and interviews), educational statistics, etc. Emphasis is laid on data collection and sorting out, statistical analysis, in an effort to reap the double benefits of qualitative and quantitative research.Starting from workplace teaching and learning and zooming in on concrete effects of utilizing multimedia and network in vocational school physics teaching, the research aims to probe into the educational practice of integrating curriculum. More specifically, it tries to limelight the application of IT in student-conducted electromagnetic experiments, classroom electromagnetics teaching, as well as the varying effects of IT application in teaching on students at different academic levels. Our experiment results indicate that timely introduction of IT in the classroom does have a positive impact on students; it serves to highlight major knowledge points and helps students to effectively comprehend the most difficult issues. Positive results are most prominent for those mid-level and academically undesirable students. The application of multimedia and network helps visualize the most abstract concepts and microscopic particles so that students have an intuitionistic understanding of electromagnetic laws and principles.During the more than two months of experiments, students have searched for relevant materials and compiled over one hundred pieces of courseware, acquired the method of learning by means of multimedia and network, their enthusiasm substantially enhanced. Meanwhile, the instructor has done an exhaustive research of related literature, including several hundred copies of physics courseware, and experimented on a new style of teaching, reaping valuable experience for IT-assisted teaching and learning. The research stands as invaluable reference for optimizing vocational school physics education.
