The twenty-first century is the century of information and it is a new challenge for the teaching of Chinese reading to grasp the information accurately and efficiently. Therefore, there is an urgent demand for a scientific and effective way in the teaching of Chinese reading.Firstly, this article points out the drawbacks in the teaching of Chinese reading, that is the neglect of the science of it, including the traditional way of Chinese reading teaching "can only be sensed by yourself, not by explained in words" and some misunderstandings of it after the second reform of curricula and teaching materials. Meanwhile, it analyzes some historical and practical reasons.Secondly, this article puts forward the scientism in the teaching of Chinese reading. From humanism and scientism, the two teaching schools, and their effect on the teaching of Chinese reading, the article discusses the humanism, scientism and their relationship. Also discussed is the historical development of the scientific teaching method of passage reading.Thirdly, the article talks about "sense" and "explain" , the two levels in teaching of Chinese reading.Finally, the article points out that the scientific method of Chinesereading teaching in four aspects, the four bridges between "sense" and"explain" . It also tries to improve the reading effect scientificallyand efficiently by rhetoric, grammar, teaching psychology and moderntechnology.This article aims at raising the attention of the teachers of Chinese, calling them to join actively to the research and practice of Chinese reading teaching and to improve its effect.
