The feature of information times, the characteristics of reading itself and the present status of teaching of reading all force us to find a solution, which necessarily is the research of reading tactics.As has been prescribed in the Curriculum Criterion of Chinese Teaching in Ordinary High School, high school students should be able to read different types of texts such as discussing, practical and literary articles and be able to speed their reading by using different reading skills such as intensive reading, scanning, and skimming according to different reading aims and materials. It is actually about the problem how to do effective reading by using reading tactics.The traditional teaching of reading has laid stress on "the cultivation of interest", "the guidance of method", and "the training of skill" for a long time. But the "tactical knowledge" is the very one kind of knowledge that can make the students the active person in the studying process. It is quite important for today's Chinese teaching. More than "methods" or "skills", the reading tactics mean that the students are able to control and adjust their reading process in order to fulfill reading tasks.In China, Chinese curriculum is being reformed; out of China, people are studying how to improve reading tactics. Therefore, I write this essay with the purpose of finding an effective way of teaching reading by studying its present state and the psychological element.The six tactics of effective reading mentioned in this essay are as follows: to activate the original knowledge, to determine the important information(or to distinguish the important and unimportant information), to raise problems and solve the problems(the tactics of query and the clearing up), to summarize the information, to analyse the information and to supervise the comprehension. The usual process of implementing the "tactics of effective reading" is: Select the reading method-Supervise the reading process-Evaluate the reading effect.The requirement to Chinese teachers made by the tactics is that teachers should be readers, assistants in reading and schemers. The requirement to teaching materials is that the materials should be able to activate students' interest, and be open and student-centered.I have an ideal picture in my mind that in teaching of reading, our Chinese teachers are to be developers, demonstrators and fulfillers while the students are sharers as well as feedbackers of the tactics. The goal of developing students' consciousness of effective reading is to let the students be the schemer and supervisors in their self-reading activity and be the real master of reading.In a word, I'm looking forward to fulfilling the task through the study and practice to change sensible reading into rational reading and to improve students' reading ability.
