The thesis investigates the history and status quo of universities' involvement in teacher education in England and Wales, and it also analyzes the traditional characteristics of universities and teacher education respectively and the development and change of relationship between universities and teacher education .In the end, based on the case research of England and Wales the article explores ideal model of relationship between universities and teacher education. The whole thesis is composed of 3 parts:Part1: This part makes a brief introduction of research background and clarification and specification on the two basic conceptions of "universities" and "teacher education", then puts forward the research rationale, research questions, research purpose and research method.Part2: This part analyzes the traditional characteristics of universities and teacher education in England and Wales and the innate incompatibilities between them, the substantial role played by universities, the ambivalence the universities showed in their involvement in teacher education, the current relationship between them, and the views from the scholars.Part3: This part explores the ideal model of relationship between universities and teacher education, it points out it is very difficult to overcome incompatibilities between universities and teacher education, there are strong points and weak points in teacher education with universities ' involvement in it, it is prospective for universities and schools to form a partnership to train the future teachers.
