Curriculum reform is at the core of educational reform, and the formation of curriculum system is directly correlated to the realization of instructional objectives and training objectives, thus it plays a major role in training and fostering qualified teachers and improving the quality of education. The reform of curriculum system ir~ normal universities is especially significant to training and fostering new century middle school teachers. The dissertation studies the orientation of curriculum reform in physics department in normal universities. On the basis of both theory and practice, it proves the necessity of curriculum reform in normal universities. On the last part, the dissertation theoretically puts forward the disciplines of curriculum arrangement in normal universities, meanwhile it suggests curriculum reform be carried out gradually.The dissertation is divided into 4 parts. On the first part the author stresses the importance of curriculum reform in two aspects, namely, from the important roles it plays in both innovating education related to curriculum and training middle school teachers. Meantime it advances the aim of the research.The second part is theory. First it offers the definition of curriculum, then obtair~ the preliminary trend of curriculum development, finally, introduces some importamodels on curriculum research and their advantages and disadvantages. Finallyargues some important ideas on curriculum, thus provides orientation for the forthcoming research. These are the theoretical basis of the dissertation.The third part is practice. From interviews with experts, the author reconfirrns the general tendency of curriculum reform. From the investigation of curriculum reform in Jin Zhou Normal College, the author sees, there are difficulties in carrying out the reform at present stage. According to the questionnaire for middle schoo teachers, the author has a general idea of the knowledge and ability that fulfil a qualified physics middle school teacher, and then provides reference information for curriculum reform in Physics Department in normal universities.The fourth part is the conclusion. Based on the analyses of the above parts, especially the second and third parts, the dissertation reaches the conclusion of 5 disciplines on curriculum arrangement in normal universities, and 5 suggestions on curriculum reform in Physics Department in normal universities.
