Homework,an important link in the teaching process, plays an important role in improving the quality of teaching, but also an significant content to reduce the academic burden on students.Therefore, in the field of teaching theory and practice school homework has been concerning continuously. The pre-literature focused on city school mostly not countryside school, so the systematic and deep researches on countryside school are relatively little. Since the National Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan(2010-2020) proposed to promote the compulsory education develop evenly, improving the quality of rural compulsory education has become a priority among priorities. While reducing burden should be execute in the whole process, to help students learn and grow happily and lively. So, how the current situation of rural primary school homework and rationality? How is the effectiveness? How to enhance the research and optimization? This is the basic intention of this study.This study takes several rural primary schools in X city, Shandong Province as the investigation object and uses questionnaire and interview method. The author made several necessary adjustments based on the ‘primary school homework investigation for students’ written by Ren Baogui in Shan Xi Normal University,This study surveyed 314 students from 6rural schools, interviewed 6 teachers, parents and students from 6 schools. The Author analyzed all the data to ensure the comprehensive survey results and reliability.The results of the study show that homework seems to be reasonable. Enhance the purpose of homework, homework time control, homework and correcting diversification, parents’ attention is also a corresponding increase. But there are also some shortcomings, mainly including the following problems: homework "exam" orientation is still evident;multidisciplinary teacher assign homework alone; homework correcting lack multi-communication and feedback; homework assigning commonly and generally; homework resources development degree is not high; home and school’s management becomes a mere formality.Reasons are varied, fundamental change has not occurred in the concept of education, exam oriented strongly, school operation and management loosely, restriction conditions of rural family, rural teachers is not balanced, rural students have not developed good study habits.Finally, proposed optimization recommendations in schools, teachers, parents and students.
