University is one of the most important wealth that medieval presents for later generations, and college is such a place in where the soul of the university lies. Merton College, founded in 1264, is one of the oldest universities of Oxford College and the independent economic status and statutes issued by the College Academy itself make the formation of a highly organized society of autonomous mode, mainly in economics, management, teaching and other aspects of independence. It can be said that the creation of Merton College system giving birth to the late Oxford College system. With this unique management system, Merton College has had a profound impact on the student lifestyle and the way of teaching and learning of medieval university, which is learned by other universities and academies. In addition to the autonomic spirit is effected by Merton College which were coming into being in late stages of Oxford.The first chapter concerns the founder of Merton College named Walter de Merton and his motivation. In the same time, taking his life as the reference to analysis the motivation of the founder in the process of the foundation of Merton College from the concept of his religion and secular.The second chapter looks at the establishment and development of the Institute of Merton College in 13-15 century. By combing and analysis of ordinance and other raw materials, the statutes issued by Merton College, in 1264, 1270 and 1274, analyze the impact and meaning of the Constitution in different periods of the Academy。The third chapter focuses on the administrative and financial management system of the College. After the establishment of the Merton College, the College formed its distinctive administrative and financial management system under the guide of the chapter, which was the management mechanism of mutual checks and balances between the warden and other members. While it endowed the college with a strong vitality, it also strengthened the cohesion and the stability of the college structure.Finally, Merton college, as the earliest established college of the University of Oxford, its origin and development process cannot be separated from its historical background. The influence of Christian thought, the absence of strong political rights center, the spread of the fire of knowledge, thoughts, culture of the middle ages, both for the establishment of Merton college, school autonomy, and mutual supervision and management mechanism of checks and balances provided a fertile soil, and Merton college management system and operation mode has been established in the late college of Oxford University, and advocating the concept of autonomy, freedom and encouraging the spirit of science became the unique spirit of Oxford University.
