With the Two Diversions of Chinese language education in the last ninety years,theoretical research on reading teaching become an important part of Mandarin teaching. Reading extensively is a necessary way to improve students’ reading ability.In order to improve the meager amount of our pupil, teachers use group reading as a way of experiment, and they had a not bad achievement. This essay is mainly working on how this way work and try to help teachers to use this way easily.In the first chapter, the essay introduces the historical background of Chinese language education and the two diversions of Chinese reading instruction. Group reading theory is formed in this historical context. The second chapter is about the feature of group reading. The third part chapter introduces the three parts of group reading, i.e. “theme”. “group texts”, “guiding questions” and teachers how to be more professional in teaching grouping reading. In the third part, the essay uses examples to explain how to choose an appropriate theme, gather group texts and use guiding questions. The forth part gives several strategies for teachers better reading teaching,and try to give a brief introduction of its three models of their advantages and disadvantages and applicable situations with examples. The last part put forward a new evaluation system based on two current evaluation systems for group reading and point out ways of future research.At the end of the essay, it points out that teachers should pay attention to the development of their professional quality,renew their teaching concept of reading,adhere to the texts as the center and Select teaching model according to the very conditions. Besides, the deficiency of this paper is analyzed and the development direction of the reading and evaluation system of group reading is pointed out as the possible research direction.
