The universities and colleges for ethnic minority groups are the comprehensive general institutions, established by the government to solve the ethnic problems of our country. Its historical mission is providing services for economic and social development on ethnic minorities and its areas. The national universities have the unique advantages in inheriting, carrying forward and developing our fine traditional culture of ethnic minorities, as well as promoting integrated cultural diversity. After 50 years of practices and researches, the national universities have formed its own characteristics on training minority talents, developing science and technology, and serving the development of minority regions, and all these achievements have become an important supplement of our higher education system. The national universities have not only become an important base of cultivating high-quality talents of ethnic minorities, studying Chinese ethnic theory and policy, inheriting and enriching national splendid cultures, but also a major window of displaying our ethnic policy and foreign exchange.Ethnic minority students in our universities come from all over the country, most mainly are from northwest, southwest and northeast where the places are geographical, economic and culturally underdeveloped. These areas are characterized with distinctive ethnic customs and habits, special psychology in national culture and distinctive personality. In recent years, with the development of economic globalization, the diversity of values and the information networks, the ideological concept of college students has also been a greater change. On the one hand, they are deeply influenced by their own culture and traditions, living habits and ethnical psychology; on the other hand, after entering the university and facing the new and relatively open environment, they appear invariantly and some at a loss. They easily feel confused, anxious and nervous in the terms of ideology, social mentality, and competition consciousness, learning motivation and volitional quality, those students who are from remote minority areas may have more feelings. Because these students live in ethnic minority areas for a long time and have less exchange with other nationalities, thus, they have insufficient understanding of economic social development and a weak political sensitivity, their thoughts are greatly influenced by their own culture and customs, there is a large gap compared with the other students in the spirit of making an improvement, becoming a talent, building interpersonal relationship and learning more knowledge of laws etc. In addition, as some students are weak in self-control, they indulge themselves in games and social networking tools such as, QQ, wechat and other virtual spaces, they become less interested in the people and the surroundings. As the educational methods and contents are out of line with the social needs, they are afraid to enter the society, and to compete with others and face the challenges. They do not adapt to the needs of society by showing disappointment and avoiding the cares of family and society, and their own responsibility. At present, the students in multi-ethnic university need more helps in formative education of personality, so it’s imperative for universities to pay more effort in this regard.This paper takes the northern university for nationalities as an example, mainly focuses on the current situation of personality formative education among ethic universities students by the investigation and analysis. By analyzing the causes for the formation of the university students’ personality, the researcher puts forward countermeasures of this issue in order to provide theoretical basis for healthy personality formation and to promote the healthy integrated development of students in multi-ethnic university.
