Since educators start the Chinese elective courses, it always draw people’s attention and expectation.However, there lies some problems when it is being carried out according to some unavoidable restrictions.Not only does it bring people some confusion, but also a variety of opportunities. Among these problems, the most difficult and practical one is how should our teachers choose the way that will be use when teaching classical Chinese material whose number is huge and whose content is complex. As is well-know, it is of great researching value that deserves deep exploring.The comprehensive methods in this passage includes documentary analysis methods, survey research method, and case study method. At first, the author conduct a survey on the situation of the teaching of classical Chinese elective units among three different schools with different levels. In term of the results, the author summarize the main problems:the content chosen is limited by the school environment, the college entrance exam content, students’competence, and the teachers’ professional quality; there are also various problems in the way chosen, such as changing the elective courses into the compulsory ones, teachers’running the whole show and students’laissez-faire; the lack of brainstorming and questions that are based on realty, etc.In view of the existing problems, the author put forward some measures which are based on the analysis and study of the relevant case. Not only did the author eliminate the useless materials, but also added much more useful ones so as to rich students’ learning.Firstly, in terms of the content, the materials that can broaden students’ knowledge and sharpen their competence in classical Chinese materials as well as stimulating their thinking are more appropriate.Secondly, in terms of teaching methods, teachers should try their best to rearrange the learning structure in compulsory units to coordinate the elective ones, attach the detailed teaching to the general teaching, combine teachers’ teaching with students’ self-study. Thirdly, in terms of principles, the most primary is to cultivate the students’ personality, which is followed by teachers’ experience and students’ interests. Last but not least,in terms of the learning strategies, in order to improve the students’ability of classical Chinese units learning, teachers should guide students to pay attention to the preview method, reading strategies.Moreover. teachers should value the design of questions in class and questionable points of the text, combining students’ self-study with the wonderful learning activities.
