Reading instruction is the concentration and difficulty of the Chinese teaching as themost important part in Chinese teaching. And it always gets all focus which comes fromschool, teachers, the parents of students and students themselves. Because the modern andcontemporary prose is the main literary form and this type of article is continuously selectedinto the high school Chinese textbooks, the status of the literary style is more essential thanany other styles.For a long time, the reading instruction of Chinese contemporary prose has not formed aspecialized teaching approach in line with its characteristics, and the numbers of prose in highschool Chinese textbook are constantly changing by a large margin. In the process of teaching,due to the limitation of the qualities of teachers who have not much accumulation of proseliterature and use inappropriate teaching method of prose reading in addition students’extracurricular reading time is reduced, these reasons have not lead to the reading effect ofstudents and the teaching effect of Chinese contemporary prose to reach the expected goal.Therefore, this paper tries to research the numbers of contemporary Chinese prose reading ofhigh school Chinese textbook and the condition of reading and of teachers and students in theHainan Chinese School and teaching of teachers. By analyzing the problems occurred incontemporary prose in teaching process, there are some proper suggestions and methods toChinese contemporary prose to promote the prose reading and higher efficiency of readinginstruction.The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, introduced theresearch background, the significance of this study, the study of the history and currentsituation of the research. The second part has compared the Chinese Contemporary Prosewhich has been selected into high school Chinese textbook. Through the elaboration of thechanges of contemporary prose in the Chinese textbook between the2000edition before thenew curriculum reform and the2006edition after it and the comparison of the selection ofprose in the textbook between one pressed by People’s Education Press and the one pressedby Suzhou Education Press, the2006edition, we can concluded that the new tendency of theselection of contemporary prose for the high school Chinese textbook is to focus on theconservation of the classic ones. Although the number of the Chinese modern andcontemporary prose has been decreased, the one that remained in the textbooks are excellent, classic ones. Although there is a decreased trend in Chinese contemporary prose, the articlesthat preserved in teaching materials are excellent and classic articles. And then, we will makean analysis to the reason of decreasing in prose. The main reasons are the need of historicalissues and the conflict between teachers’ language reading instruction and teaching purpose.And the third part is making a questionnaire survey on reading situation of middle teachersand students in Hainan province, which reflect the problem of high school students’ readingChinese contemporary prose is low inimitable symbol, unobvious effectiveness of teachingand less extracurricular time. The problems in high school language teacher’s readingeducation of Contemporary Chinese Prose reading and Chinese modern and contemporaryprose is teachers’ professional qualities needed to be improved.Last part of the paper, as there are some problems in High School of ContemporaryChinese Prose reading and reading teaching, propose three countermeasures and suggestionsas follows: First, read aloud before the class, fully percept of the text content and teachingmode; Second, read loudly in the classroom, run into the text and out of it; Third, after-schoolreading, cultivate awareness of literary history.
