On The Weakening Of Mother 's Image In The Biography Of Ming Dynasty

In the history of China, it alreay has a long history to separate the stories of female as "Female Biography" with other catalogues. While the standard of selection and writing emphasis of "Female Biography"of each dynasty are slightly different, and the differences also show the overall development trend. At first, Liu Xiang wrote female biography in ordr to exhort the emperor to reform social atmosphere, and wisdom, motherhood, pudicity, literary talent, these characters of female achieve the above purpose at different levels. After the Song Dynasty, ideological change, with the rising of Confusion philosphy, "Female Biography"play an role of maintaining the ethics of the objective, motherhood can’t find the right position in the five constant virtues. So gradually weakened, in the "Female biograph-Ming", the weakening trend of motherhood is very obvious."Female Biography-Ming" records 265 women dying for chastity, not including the group events, divided into four major categories of pudicity, integrity, respects for parents, righteousness. While pudicity & intergity stories accounting for 87.55%. In addition to put great importance on the pudicity & intergity histories, also despiting the motherhood biography. "Female Biography-Ming" is not a biography designed to record the motherhood, the image of mother is mentioned only when describing other virtues, but official histories of other dynasties concerning motherhood are all included, each has their own features. In China history, official biographies of female did not record the females histories just by considering pudicity & intergrity, also have "outstanding courage, brilliance". The satandard of selecting to female biographies experiend from "lists of female" to "integrtity females". Pudicity & intergity play a very important role in this process,. and become more and more important. It becomes the main current later when historians are writing female’s biography, but the "literary telent" and "motherhood" etc., are just episodes finally. After the Song Dynasty, advocating the virtue pudicity & intergity has become more and more serious in the society. Till the Ming Dynasty, the ideology of pudicity & intergity of woman are increasingly extreme. Accoding to the Ming females biography, included in 69.81% of the women, died for their pudicity & integrity. They forget the responsibility as a mother, regarless of the helpless children after their death. Under the strong impact of pudicity & intergity, natural maternal virtue gradually disappear in Ming Dynasty.A number of factors cause the extreme idea of pudicity & intergity of Ming females. It includes the Confucian philosophy restriction, the rulling policy, economic temptation, and feudal family support. This paper points out that the weakeness of motherhood in "Female Biography-Ming", the standard of biographies of previous ancient dynasties, the historical background and the relationships of factors causing extreme ides of pudicity & intergity of females in Ming Dynasty, through the study and analisis of "Female Biography-Ming" and "Female Biography" of other dynasties, and making a comprehensive analysis on the phenomenon of weakening motherhood.
