Investigation On Survival Status Of Professional Social Workers

The social workers who are the important part of harmonious society,shoulder the mission that protecting the social vulnerable groups from unfair treatment, helping them develop potential and living ability to possess happiness. Now in China the social contradictions are prominent in the transformation period. With the aging population and the growing gap between rich and poor, it is an undoubted fact that in China there is an urgent need for a large number of professional social workers. Currently Chinese social work is developing in the direction of specialization. The relevant laws and institutions around the country are tending to be perfect. However, the situation can’t be ignored is that the living condition of social workers is not optimistic when they devote their life to social work career. It has become a focus that attracts wide concerns from society.This article comprehensively exhibits their living condition from economy,housing, family, social contact and self-value realization through interviewing several social workers with the method of qualitative analysis. The social workers’ sense of happiness, desolation, helpless and hesitation are truly reflected, and more important, their spirits of optimism and dedication are founded by writer.The research shows that social workers’ salary treatment is lower than the average level of society, and the majority of them are dissatisfied with thissalary. For these social workers who do not work in their native place, rent is the highlight of living expenses. The support from family numbers, especially parents and spouse, is the important ingredient for them to go into social work.It is gratifying to know that most of social workers possess a good relationship with colleagues, and their sense of self-value are generally high.Hoping that the study of professional social workers’ living condition in this article can provide effective reference for the development and improvement of Chinese social workers.
