A Study On The Cultivation Of Doctoral Candidates In The United States

Doctoral candidate is a group who has a high academic level,playing a leading role in promoting a country’s economic development and social prosperity. Facing with the economic globalization,the strengthening of internationalization and the multicultural shock, the whole quality of the American doctoral candidates is challenged severely. A great number of surveys show that more than a half of American doctoral candidates go to work in universities after they get their degrees, but the universities show a degrading satisfaction to these new teachers, the non-equivalence between professional academic ability and teaching ability is getting clear, this fact urges the American high education domain to pay more attention to the pre-service cultivation problem of the future university teachers, by a large number of innovative reform measures of the countries and universities, College teachers as the orientation, the overall quality of the cultivated doctoral candidates in the United States has made significant progress.There is a similarity in employment structure between our doctoral candidates and American doctoral candidates,the primary intention of employment for our doctoral candidates is also to be a teacher in a colledge,and the quality of our future university teachers’ pre-service cultivation is also not very high. The national medium and long-term education reform and development outline(2010-2020) clearly proposes that we should improve the cultivation quality of the doctoral candidates, and establish a high quality teacher group. Based on the required achievements of the American universities’ future reform in teaching and from the cultivated situation of our doctoral candidates, the passage will fully introduce American doctoral candidates’ current employment background,the new challenge faced by the future university teachers in the United States,the thought basis and policy basis of the American future university teachers’ cultivation and the practical cases of the future university teachers’ cultivation in the US,in order to get beneficial enlightenment and reference for our future university teachers’ cultivation.
