In modern times of today, profession generates changes and disappears in a fast way; social division of labor is more specific; profession diversification is more obvious. This requires students to learn about the social work and the world as early as possible, set clear goals for their life and career and know the approaches to achieve the goals. In order to help students to understand society, the work world and themselves and prepare students for the future career, career education has been carried out in the stage of basic education widely in the world. Career education in our country, however, has not caused widespread attention, especially in the stage of basic education career education is almost blank.This paper chooses British whose career education is developed relatively mature as the research object to explore the history and current situation of career education in secondary schools aiming at to promote the development of career education in our country. The paper firstly combed the development history of career education in British secondary schools. Based on the studying of the development history of career education in secondary schools, this paper focuses on British current career education situation in details including its principles, objectives, contents, the ways of implementing and quality assurance measures. Finally, it gives comments on the status of the career education of secondary schools in the UK and summarizes its characteristics and practice experience.Through the study of the career education in UK and the comparing the present situation of career education in our country, this study was to think that we can learn from the following experience: the development of career education needs to win support from the society and takes advantage of social resources; establish national level policies and regulations to ensure the implementation of the career education; develop a whole career education curriculum implementation framework; establish social career education service agency to complement the shortcoming of school career education; career education evaluation system should be established to ensure quality of career education; strengthen the training of career teachers to improve the profession level of career education.
