| Although curriculum reform of basic education in our country has been gone through more than ten years in full swing, we use the concepts of the New Curriculum(2011edition) to examine the current geographical teaching in junior middle school and find some problems are still remained. For example, students’ dominant position is not obvious, teachers’ methods are monotonous, the relations between teachers and students are indifferent, the effects of geographical evaluation are poor and other problems. As one of the top ten theoretical basis of curriculum reform of basic education in china, the Multiple Intelligence Theory has injected new vitality for our new curriculum reform. Against the background, this paper aims at drawing lessons from the Multiple Intelligence Theory and studying how to change the current status of geographical teaching in junior middle school, to promote the students master effectively basic knowledge and skills and their overall development and personality development.This paper, on the basis of consulting a large amount of literature at home and abroad and combining my teaching practice, adopts documents study, expert consulting study, survey study, case study and interviewing study and other research methods, focuses on the systematic and in-depth discussion about the current status of geographical teaching, the creation of multiple geographical teaching and learning environment, geographical learning attitude and methods, students’ intelligent development in geographical study, the Multiple Intelligence Theory into geography teaching practice, teaching reconsideration and so on.Through the investigation and analysis, the conclusions drawn as follows:1.The creation of multiple geographical teaching and learning environment, has a great influence on the students in junior middle school for their geographical study. In this paper, on the basis of studying the Multiple Intelligence Theory and combining my teaching practice, I put forward to creating eight kinds of teaching and learning environments, it includes physical learning environment, visual learning environment, self-aware learning environment, positive interpersonal environment, verbal intelligence environment, mathematical logic intelligence environment, musical intelligence environment and naturalist intelligence environment.After practice, most students are found positive changes in attitudes and behaviors for their geographical study.2.Students are the core in the geographical teaching and learning activities, fully understanding and mastering the students’ geographical learning status and intelligent development in junior middle school are the basis of improving the efficiency of geographical teaching. This paper takes Xi’an Yucai Middle school for example, surveyed and analyzed the current status of geographical learning and intelligent development of the students in the seventh grade and the eighth grade. It turned out:①The junior middle school students’ subjiect tendency is intensive and extensive;②The junior middle school students’ attitudes and approaches are definitive and plastic in their geographical study;③The junior middle school students’ intelligent development(level or tendency) are uneven. The stronger intelligences of the seventh grades’ students are Visual-spatial Intelligence, Musical-rhythmic Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence, their general intelligences are verbal-linguistic Intelligence, Logical-mathematics Intelligence and Naturalist Intelligence, their lower intelligences are Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence;④The intelligent development of the students between the seventh grade and the eighth grade are very different.3.The geographical teaching practice refer to the Multiple Intelligence Theory is quite effective. On the basis of two teaching cases I have practiced, the paper discussed students’ performance in the geographical class, found many students became more active than before, the atmosphere were warmer and much more harmonious, exercises in the class revealed the students knew very well about the knowledge. And,According to the interview, the students liked the class very much.The unique feature:(1) As one of the eight elements in the modern teaching theory, teaching environment is always ignored by teachers and managers. To the current status of geographical teaching in junior middle school and the characteristic of the students’ somatopsychic development, I put forward to creating multiple teaching environment to promote their geographical study.overall development and personality development and privide more knowedge and reference about multiple intelligence theory for geography education researchers and classroom teachers;(2) Through the questionnaire, the paper surveyed intelligent development level (or tendency) of the students in the seventh grade and the eighth grade, analyzed and compared each other detailedly, found out the reasons, came to the conclusions and gave the corresponding countermeasures for teachers’ reference. |
