With the rapidly development of society, Internet and the modern technology, make thewhole human beings enter in a new era of knowledge economy and information explosion,anyone can get a lot of information from a variety of channels.(such as the Internet, books,newspapers, magazines, etc.) Extra-curricular reading is a very important way for collectinginformation, knowing the world, developing thinking, getting the aesthetic experience topeople’s study, life and work. The book education—the wealth in it, published by theorganization of education in United Nations said:"a competitive person is the person whohas lifelong learning ability, and to be a person who has lifelong learning ability, the mosteffective way is extra-curricular reading. If a man without a good reading ability, it will bedifficult to adapt to the needs of self-development and professional jobs.With the in-depth development of a new round of curriculum reform, the high gradeelementary Students’ extra-curricular reading has been unprecedented attention. But thepresent situation of students’ extra-curricular reading is not optimistic. There are many thingsthat are not suitable for children, such as some games, television shows, movies and otheramusements activities. Due to students ability to resist the temptation of self-control is stillweak, so this distracts the students’ interest in reading books in objectively.From theperspective of the present situation of school education, because of too much homework andtoo many learning tasks, students are difficult to find the time for extra-curricular reading. Inaddition, because of the difference of students’ family environment and background, led tothe students’ extra-curricular reading are uneven.This paper based on the study of relevant literature review and through is thequestionnaire method and interview method,in order to know the present situation of thehigh grade elementary students’ extra-curricular reading.The dimensions of the surveyincludes purpose, time, quantity, contents, methods, interests, habits, resources and otherinfluence factors.The author investgated three primary school students questionnaire andinterview32parents in ganjingzi of dalian(The number of students’questionnaire is300,there are298effective questionnaires).This paper through studying its influence factors,in order to analysis the systematically reason, then proposed targeted countermeasures andsuggestions to society, school, family and students themselves.This paper aims at helpingschools and families give students the right guidance and education, to carry out effectiveextracurricular reading, raise the students’ reading ability, promote the healthy developmentof the high grade elementary students.
