With the progress of civilization, the level of special education’s development hasbecome an important standard to measure a country’s level of development. Americanspecial education only started in nineteenth century, however it has been rapidlydeveloped in twentieth century,and now as a most developed country has becomeone of the world’s most famous inclusive education. The mainstreaming movementwhich occurred in the sixties and seventies of the20th century plays a very importantrole in the ifeld of American special education. From the experience and problems inthe mainstreaming movement of American special education, we can get beneficialenlightenment: set up the new view on the disabled, strengthen the special educationlegislation, improve the professional level of teachers, the establishment of the family,school, community three-in-one support system. At the same time, to study thedevelopment of special education mainstreaming movement can accelerate andimprove the development of special education in china. This paper is divided into sixparts:The first chapter is the introduction; including research reason for the selection ofthe mainstreaming movement of American special education, research purpose andsignificance, research method, concept definition and literature review.The second chapter introduces the background of mainstreaming movement ofAmerican special education, and the reason why this mainstreaming movementoccurred in American special education.The third chapter describes development period of mainstreaming movement ofAmerican special education, which includes the reform of ideas in American specialeducation in the sixties of the20th century, the ordinary school develops faster thanspecialized institutions, a’nd Dunns theory about special education: efficacy on specialeducation placement.The fourth chapter is the mature period of mainstreaming movement of Americanspecial education, in the seventies of the20th century Evelyn, Deno’s service structurecascade of special education, James Gallagher advocated to sign the special educationcontract, and the most important special bill,"Education for All Handicapped Children Act, EAHCA"The fifth chapter is the analysis of mainstreaming movement of American specialeducation, the advantages of the mainstreaming movement of American specialeducation as well as the problems and shortcomings.The sixth chapter is about the enlightenment and worthy for the field of ourcountry from mainstreaming movement of American special education.
