A Study On The Political Participation Of Contemporary Korean Women

21st century is called "female era"and female political participation is considered as the outstanding mark in women’s liberation and process of social democracy,which has already brought about the common attention of international society. More and more countries begin to value female political participation,which is treated as the key parameter to measure advancement of one country. As the neighboring country of China, Korean women’s equal position in law has been confirmed since the foundation of Korea. Entering1980’s,Korean economy has gained repaid development. With the rapid development of Korean economy, the female education level has been remarkably improved and women are more active in social activities. Various indexes has indicated that women’s social position in such respects as politics,economy, society,law,culture etc. has been greatly improved.Simultaneously the consciousness of female political participation is continuously heightened,the more channels for female political participation are added increasingly, the scale of female political participation is obviously enlarged.and greater progress has been made in the capability and level of female political participation improved than before. Although great improvement of Korean female political participation has been witnessed by the world, through specific analysis and investigation, it is known that the level of Korean female political participation is not in the front row, or even far from average criteria required by the international and the prospect remains no optimistic. On the basis of relative theory on female political participation, from the index by which the international investigates female political participation and mainly in term of the power participation,the current actual condition of Korean female political participation is emphatically investigated. By analyzing the number of congress women elected by successive national congresses and local congresses, it is concluded that although Korean women benefit from proportional delegates system and the number of women elected to the national congress and local congresses is increasing year after year, the national congresswomen or local congresswomen elected by normal election procedure are very few. And what is more, the present condition of Korean women seniors is not well improved for not only the small number, very few women having access to the policy-making body but also limited professional fields. Therefore, compared with the development level of economy, Korean women participative proportion in economy field and women’s education level, the condition of Korean female political participation still lags behind.The thesis analyzes the restrict factors from three aspects:election system,social culture and female self-elements. Election system mainly includes election districts system, proportional delegates system and election fund. Social culture elements embrace families, schools and public medium’s influence on female political participation female self-elements mainly lie in the weakness of participation consciousness and restrict of double-rolls Aiming at those restrict factors,the thesis proposes the enlarged program to improve the level of Korean women political participation, which includes that in election system,the middle and large election district system for3-5women electors should be adopted and women candidates quota should be introduced in a coordination way. Furthermore,women proportion should be enlarged and the election fund support should be offered to the women. In social culture, the social culture environment of female political participation should be improved.The families,schools, social education institutes, public mediums as well as all social departments responsible for the education should improve the deep-rooted view of gender distinction in Korea. Moreover, more efforts are made to improve the consciousness of female political participation, child welfare policy and child welfare facilities.As China and Korea are in neighboring countries,except for the similarity of geography position, they have the common in heritage and development of the social culture and the improvement of the women social position also has gone through the similar process. By studying the factors restricting Korean female political participation as well as enlarged program,the thesis anticipates offering a certain help to Chinese female political participation.Using the effective experience of Korea of referance is conducive to the stipulation and promotion of law and policy on Chinese female political participation. Meanwhile, the dilemma of Korea female political participation conduces to making Chinese authorities further improve the environment of female political participation, heighten consciousness of female political participation and improve female political participation level. Furthermore,the society is fully promoted in various respects.
