In high school, English writing is one of contents and means of learning.Meanwhile, it is not only a key point and a difficult point of English teaching,but animportant standard to judge students’ English knowledge and skills, as well as theirlanguage application ability. However,at present teachers and students do not valuewriting teaching and writing training does not reach the designated position, sowriting is still the weakest one in high school English teaching. How to improvestudents’ writing becomes one of the most important issues in English teaching.Problems in students’ writings is that their basic language knowledge is poor and theylack writing skills.The recitation way is said to be good to instruct students’ writingbased on the relative study, but it lacks teachers’ intervention in students’ writingprocess. As a result, students can’t master writing knowledge and skills and theyeasily become tired of it with time going on. While the model text imitation way lackssufficient language input and students don’t have enough innerlanguage resources.Based on the above reasons, the author of this thesis puts forward the model textrecitation and imitation training.Through studying the theory of second language acquisition, Krashen’s inputhypothesis, Swain’s output theory and behavioral theory of imitation,the author triesto introduce the learning method of Chinese recitation and imitation into high schoolEnglish writing teaching,aiming to improve the current high school writing teaching,especially to help senior high school students to find practical training methods toimprove the students’ English writing skills.The samples in this experimental study is80students selected from two classes in Grade Three in Xi’an Qinchuan MiddleSchool. By the methods of experiment, questionnaire and interview, the authoranalyzes the data with the help of SPSS19.0. The results indicate that model textrecitation and imitation way improve students’ level of using words correctly andmaking sentences properly, especially choosing advanced words and brodening the sentence structure.The way also makes students improve the students’ level ofdiscourse structure,and students learn to effectively use statements connectionsbetween components,which makes structure compact. The results of the study confirmthe importance of model text recitation and imitation,and also can be of some use forreference to make further research in the teaching of English writing. Finally, thelimitations of the present study are discussed and some suggestions for future researchare also made.
