English writing,as one of the four basic language skills, embodies students' comprehensive language competence and is attached great importance during the process of second language acquisition. It has been found that some problems exist in English writing teaching of senior high school through the investigation conducted by the author.Memetics is a pragmatic theory, which is based on Darwin's Evolution Theory to interpret the rules of the evolution in culture. Its appearance provides a new perspective to improve English writing teaching. In accordance with memetics, language is transmitted through duplication and imitation. The infectivity of meme provides a close connection between meme and the process of second language learner's acquisition of another language. And the reproductivity of meme attaches the significant role of recitation in English learning.Under the guidance of memetics, the author combines several theories in second language acquisition, applying recitation-imitation writing teaching model into English writing teaching of senior high school, and implementing a four-month experimental study.Fifty-two students in the Grade one from No.1 Senior High School of Liuzhi are chosen to participate in the experiment. The study involves in three instruments and an analyzing way. They are respectively test, questionnaire, interview, and text analysis. The pre-test is conducted for learning about students' current writing competence. The post-test aims to prove whether the recitation-imitation writing teaching model is helpful in improving students' writing competence. The questionnaire and interview are implemented to obtain students' evaluation for the recitation-imitation writing teaching model as well as making a comparison on students' attitude to English writing before and after the experiment.Text analysis is to further investigate if students' progress embody in some aspects. In this study, the author tries to answer the two research questions: “Can this recitation-imitation writing teaching model based on memetics improve senior high school students' writing competence?” and “Are there any changes of students' writing attitude after adopting the writing teaching model?” Through analyzing the research results, the author concludes that the recitation-imitation writing teaching model from the perspective of memetics is effective in improving students' writing competence and changing students' writing attitude. This thesis includes six chapters.Chapter one is the introduction,in which research background, purpose, significance and layout of the paper are introduced at length. The second chapter is the literature review, which presents and summarizes domestic and overseas researches and achievements on memetics.Chapter three is the theoretical bases,in which detailedly talks about memetics, such as the definition, origin, characteristics, and life cycle of meme.In addition,it gives a brief introduction of three SLA theories, which demonstrates the feasibility and rationality of the recitation-imitation writing teaching model based on memetics. The research design is in chapter four, which describes the experiment in detail, such as research subjects, research questions, experimental procedures, and so on.Chapter five is data analysis and discussion.A comparison of students' writing competence and attitude before and after the experiment can be made in this chapter so as to solve the two research questions. The last chapter is the conclusion.Major findings of the research, implications for English writing teaching, the limitations of the research and suggestions for further study are included.
