Gui Zhou province has long suffered from a state of backwardness in economy, politics, culture and social construction. The following plights in compulsory education investigated by scholars are not only long-existing, but quite serious. Also due to Gui Zhou's special natural and geographical environment, traditional ethnical conventions and social and economical conditions, its education attained its own distinctive features and some complex realistic difficulties. Therefore, some national educational policies and general theoretical outcomes of scholars, when applied to Gui Zhou, got deformed and unsuitable which to some extent hindered the positive development of compulsory education. This dissertation attempts to have a summary of the plights of compulsory education in Gui Zhou through some investigation into the compulsory education in Tianzhu county of Miao and Dong ethnical groups in the southeast region of Gui Zhou. The plights in compulsory education in the country will be analyzed and reasons will be dug out with the relative theories applied. And some valuable practical ideas will be put forward in order to make some contributions to the positive development of the compulsory education of the ethnical areas and the realization of a balanced development and a satisfying education.This paper contains four parts:First, there will be a brief introduction to the educational, human, natural and geographical and social economical conditions in Tian Zhu county of Gui Zhou province.In the second part, there will be a study of the realistic difficulties of the compulsory education of Tian Zhu county. Through the study of the 2010 Educational Statistics of Tian Zhu county and the interview with the administrative leaders of education, four primary school masters and middle school principals, four primary school teachers and middle school teachers and some parents of compulsory education students, together with my own understandings, I will give a summary of the difficulties.In the third place, I will probe into the existing difficulties in the compulsory education in Tian Zhu county. And I will analyze and summarize the profound reasons behind the difficulties with the application of a combination of the theories like compulsory education being the public products, fair education and education's function of social degree division.Lastly, based on the profound reasons behind the difficulties, I will try to bring about some feasible suggestions of policies. For example:the preferential policies of the education investment to the country areas. The enhancement of standard school construction. The rules of the use of both boarding and shuttle buses. The establishment of the education and management system of country left-behind children with the responsibilities of the society, the government, the school and the family. The refinement of the selection of talents. The reinforcement of the function of the social degree division of rural area education.
