With the advent of economic globalization and the new basic educational reform, the quality of English teachers confront more and more challenges, especially the quality of English teachers in rural areas is subject to unprecedented challenges. The level of primary school English teachers'professional quality, and the level of professional development will be directly related to the quality of basic education and our country's future Citizens. Therefore, it is the issues which need further investigation in the current educational reform that are improving the quality and exploring effective ways to promote the professional development of English teachers in rural areas. It is essential to construct a high-level and high-quality group of English teachers in rural primary schools.Based on documentary research of teachers'professional development, this thesis explores the basic situations and the professional development of the rural English teachers from the perspective of sociology of education. Huanren county of Liaoning province is taken for case study.The investigation objects are English teachers from 9 different primary schools such as Shajiazi primary school, Guaimozi Primary school, Yezhugou Primary shool and so on. Basic situations of English teachers are mainly involved with four aspects such as the gender, age, titles and educational background. Professional development is mainly involved with four dimensions such as Internalization of vocational values, access to vocational means, identify of vocational norms, and formation of vocational character. Through investigation, the author found that primary school English teachers in Huanren county are encountering many problems. The problems are as follows:disproportions in gender, unreasonable structure of titles, a weak vocational sense of honor, reading few professional books, out-of-date teaching strategies, lack of cooperation consciousness, not good at dealing with accidents in teaching, estranged relationship with students'parents, a poor emotional regulation ability and so on. According to the currently existing problems of professional development of primary school English teachers in Huanren county, this thesis further analyzes both internal and external affecting factors.The internal factors include motivation of career chosen, character defects, needs and consciousness of self-development, and the reflective thinking ability. The external factors include colleague relationship, school management system, teacher evaluation system and teacher training. On this basis, the thesis tries to seek new ways in which primary school English teachers in Huanren county can be promoted from two aspects such as teacher training, school organization and management system. It is the purpose of this thesis to benefit the research on the professional development of rural primary school teachers and to promote education development in Liaoning province. Strategies in the aspect of teacher training are as follows:arrange training time reasonably and pay attention to the pertinence of training contents; concern about subjective spirit and individual life practice; pursue teacher-based concept and ability standard. Strategies in the aspect of school organization and management system are as follows:the principal and other executives implement professional management; optimize interpersonal environment in which each teacher is respected; construct effective mechanism of teachers'appraisal, namely developmental teacher evaluation; strengthen self-constructions.
