It is very important to Summarize China's past 60 years' diplomacy. Firstly, many studies separate China's diplomatic strategy from its history. Secondly, grand strategy is needed in the process of history sorting and theory summing up. Thirdly, there are too much researches focusing on diplomatic policy making.After a brief study to the history of modern international relations, we can summarize some common features in the three nations' diplomacy history, the U.S.A., U.S.S.R and the People's Republic of China. For example, they were newly-emerged states with innovative society system, they were surrounded by the international relation system and its dominated country, and they managed to breakthrough it, after a long period of effort, became big powers in the world with important influences at last. As far as Breakthrough Diplomacy is concerned, its most significant characteristic is to avoid direct confrontation with the hegemonic force.Many people share the opinion that it is China's Strategic Opportunities Period in the first 20 years of 21 century, and the time even can be longer, but we must keep sober about China's position in the world. To be frankly, we still ought to formulate our diplomacy policy in the framework of Breakthrough Diplomacy Strategy. The reason lies in the following aspects:China is a developing country currently and in the near future; the gap between China and the west countries remains large; we can find hostile forces in the directions of east, south, and west; the only hegemonic country on the globe probably does not hope China keep pace with it, etc.Then, how to deal with this dilemma? The answer is firmly persisting in Breakthrough Diplomacy Strategy. That is to say, we'd better set the national interest more rationally and scientifically, pay more attention to domestic economic development and institutions innovation, continue to enhance the overall national strength as central objective of our country, increase cooperation, reduce confrontation, and avoid external interference and blocking to the process of modernization, maintain a peaceful and stable development environment as long as possible.
