Abstract/Summary:
After the September 11 Attacks, a debate between the border security and immigration policies appears in the United States. And from the debate, the idea that illegal immigration produces the terrorism has emerged. In such a context, the American Government has made some significant changes to its immigration policies aiming at enhancing its domestic public security. At the same time, the government has paid more attention to its policy-making to deal with the increasing illegal immigrants in the American society. As a Republican President, George Walker Bush wants to take a mid-way to balance the different appeals from the different interest groups, but nothing positive has resulted from his efforts. This thesis will focus on the illegal immigration policies in the United States issued after the September 11 Attacks by analyzing the"stick + carrot"policies and exploring the whys those policies have failed in the end.
