The Second World War changed the international relation pattern. USA become the powerful chief of the capitalism world, while the socialism expanded the range of one country and formed a camp of the East. Restricted by the contradictory and the conflicts between the two different social systems which already existed before the War, US and the Soviet Union unfolded the Cold War and the world divided into two camps. Lacking strength to US, the Soviet Union had the premise in mind that under guarding the Eastern Europe safety belt, to seek chance to expand its influence. It hold the Great Nation chauvinism banner high and intervened domestic affairs of other nations unceasingly. Owing to the special geographic location and historic causes, Afghanistan pursued an amicable policy to the Soviet Union in most of the time. The furtherest policy of Afghanistan adopted to The Soviet Union was stand in the middle between the US and The Soviet Union, and that provided a chance to The Soviet Union for entering.Developed decades and the year 70's came, the offensive and defensive situation has changed between US and the Soviet Union; while Brezhnev's global expansion became more and more alarming. The Soviet Union enlarged its influence in Afghanistan, and helped those who inclined to it stage coup d'etat several times, one of which happened in the September, 1979 had made Aming the leader of Afghanistan.Isolated from the Soviet Union's orbit both in domestic and foreign affairs, Aming' s policy initiated intervention to Afghanistan, and that started the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan which last 10 years. The Soviet Union's invasion to Afghanistan was a powerful invade to a nonaligned country after its invasions to Hungary and Czechoslovakia which were in the same socialism camp, and that was the peak of its expansionism strategy. The influence of the war lasted till now, and has an unseperated relation to today's Afghanistan situation. Despite the Soviet Union as a popular problem in academic studies, the research of the motivation of the Soviet Union invade Afghanistan is not much as well as not completely. From the angles of realistic and history, as well as inside and external factors, also from the view of the special relationship between Communist Party of USSR and Talaqji, this thesis tries to make a synthetical analyze. The motivation of the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan are many-sided: from the realistic aspect, the separated tendency of Aming government was the direct reason; as a geographic factor was Afghanistan's location and the importance followed by the position; it was in the stage that the Soviet Union expanded while US contracted in the Cold War; occupying Afghanistan could make a threat to the united China, America and Japan; the extreme centralized political system was also a factor caused its invasion; from the view of history was Russia's forwarded south and expanded to the ocean; Iran revolution and the following Iran hostage crisis provided a good opportunity for the Soviet Union invasion; another factor was the special relationship between Communist Party of USSR and Talaqji.
