The rapid advancement of modern information technology has made the mass media, including TV, radio, the press, and the internet, to be the absolutely necessary part of people's daily life and the important factor of influencing the state political life and public opinion. As the media develops, it brings to the parties opportunities as well as challenges: on one side, the parties use the media as the tool of political communication, and they can transmit more political information in virtue of the media, so that to close their relationship to the people; on the other hand, the media, as the new political channel, have replaced some functions of the parties in a certain extent. The parties have to adjust their relationship with the media according to the media changes for they need to be there and develop. Although the character and the operation of the parties change in different countries, there are some rules which are the same on dealing with the relationship with the parties. This thesis takes the western countries as the model, studying the changing relationship between the western parties and the media, by cognizing the means and measures of using, managing, and controlling the media of the western parties, from which the ruling parties of China, the CPC, will learn a lot on this issue.In this thesis, the main research methods applied include comparative, historical and positive analysis, aiming to give a fairly comprehensive study on the changing relationship between the parties and the media. The basic structure of the thesis is as follows:Introduction. Explain the reasons of the author selecting the issue and the significances of the study, and to make brief review of the current research on this subject. Give definition of the key concepts in the thesis. And make a brief introduction of the basic thoughts of the thesis.Chapter1. Make a comparison between the parties and the media form the functional point of view.Chapter2.Partition the relationship of the two in two different phases, party-media and media-party, and make particular descriptions on their main representation.Chapter3. Analyze the main reason of the changing relationship between the two, and the influences on party politics caused by it.Conclusion. Draw some lessons on how the CPC dealing with the relationship with the media.
