As primary and middle school students are expected to form the most important market to the enterprises that supply the product of industrial tourism,it is meaningful in theory as well as in practice to explore the major restricting factors that hinder students from participating in industrial tourism, and to formulate strategic suggestions for enterprises that are involved in the business. This study holds that the biggest obstacle is from parents who do not understand what industrial tourism is and do not appreciate the value that their children can benefit when pursuing this kind of tourist activity. This is a phenomenon that the study attempts to interpret. After defining the concept of industrial tourism for use in this article, the author analyses the essential properties of this tourist product. With a case study, the author explores the present condition of the market for industrial tourism in China and identifies some of its major problems. Supported by the forgoing research, the article makes a careful study of the results from a 540-subject survey that has been done to evaluate the general perception of industrial tourism. The study generates the following three conclusions regarding how to develop student market for industrial tourism in China:1. Unique features and scale (or unique features and public awareness) of an industrial enterprise is a basic principle that decides whether or not this enterprise should develop industrial tourism.2. People of higher educational level, high salary,or young age, especially students of primary schools, form the most promising potential markets of industrial tourism.3. Emphasizing the educational and economic function of industrial tourism, the convenience with which the product can be consumed, and promoting industrial tourism as a desirable alternative form of leisure as well as an effective way in building young people's character can be taken as initial steps of marketing efforts. In the last section of the article the author gives his ideas on how to enhance the parents' perception of the product of industrial tourism and their recognition of the benefits arising from their children's participation in the industrial tourist activity.
