Since the history came into the rank society, the corruption has been along with the human being. Its spreading and flooding have given great harm to the society. In nowadays world, no country can escape from the corrasions of the corruption, the United States can't make an exception either. In twentieth century, the corruption of American government is increasingly serious and presents with the new characters. In order to efficiently prevent and punish the corruption, the American government takes some corresponding measures, and gets the distinct effects.In the political field, the meaning of the corruption is an vexed issue at all times. The scholars of the different days and countries have the different understandings. In conclusion, the corruption indicates that the officials abuse the power to gain the personal profits, the corruption is the combination of the power and the selfish desires. The corruption has three roots. The first one is the power, the second one is the economy, at last the corrupt officials' bad mind is the third root of the corruption. After analyzing the meaning and the root of the corruption, we can find that the corruption has three characters, which is the wave expansibility, the variety and the bigotry. So we must do our best to fight with the corruption.The corruption of the American government can trace back to the early time of the United States. The corruption of this age mostly occurred in the local government and the amount of the corruption isless. But before the civil war, the corruption invaded in the state institution. In the anaphase of the nineteenth century, the corruption presented itself with a peak, the amount of the corruption is more and the phenomenon of the graft and the bribery is very serious. Because the government didn't take the effective measures to prevent the corruption, the corruption of the twentieth century tends to more serious. Not only the graft and the bribey are more serious, but also the corruption has the new character, which is using the public institution to get or extend the power.The appearance of the American government isn't accidental, it has the political reason, the economic and the moral reason. By analyzing the political system of the United States, we can find that the corruption has the certain relation with the decentralizing power system and the trading quality of the election. Besides the political reasons, the interference of the government, the activity of seeking profit and the low salary of the official are the economic reasons that can induce the corruption. We can't ignore that the stoniness of the public and the distortion of the morality also can make the corruption come into being.Since the twentieth century, the corruption becomes more serious, so the American government takes a series measures to combat the corruption. In order to effectively beat the corruption, the congress of the United States passed Federal Corrupt Practice Act, Federal Election Campaign Acts and Ethics in Government Act, etc. The American government also established Federal Election Commission,Special Prosecutor and Inspector General to strengthen and supervise the implementation of the law. The corruption can't be solely solved, so the government correspondingly adjusted the official system to more effectively control the corruption. Besides these measures, the government increased the transparency of the institution, so that the public can supervise the officials to prevent the corruption.By these measures, the American government striked some phenomenon of the corruption and reduced the harm of the corruption. The practice has proved that these measures can prevent and punish the corruption. Everything has two sides, the measures also have some shortages. First there are some leaks that can give the badger hat some chances. Secondly the government can't effectively punish the corrupt officials.
