A Study On The Urban Adaptation Strategy Of Farmers In Cities

With the sustainable development of Chinese economy and urbanization, a large number of farmers swarm into cities. The procession of urbanization has changed the situation of China and has a great influence on the development of China in future. Nowadays, the problems of population floating and migrating in rural China have come to the attention of many academic communities and become one of the hottest issues. Although there are large amounts of research works having been done and large numbers of helpful results having been achieved, there are still lots of work needed to carry on and to make these problems more clearly.On the one hand, previous researchers tend to equate floating population urbanization problems with rural migrant workers problems, and they use urbanization practice instead of all of the migrant workers urbanization practice, on the other hand, under the care of academic practice, scholars artificially has shaped migrant workers which itself is not "monolithic" and lacked of the typed study of migrant workers, so they constructed and accumulated a lot of knowledge in the form of "split".In this paper, I choose business farmer from L flower market in the city of Qinhuangdao in HeBei province as my object of study. The paper focuses on the research of Adaptive strategy to city for business farmer. We have studied and analyzed this group in the city’s survival and the development strategy in the perspective of the social guanxi network theory, and use Local social relation, urban social relation, face, etc as the tools of research. Through the analysis to the material, the author gives a vivid description of the construction about business farmer’s social networks. And the meanwhile, the author studied the construction of social networks have impact on business farmer’s adoption to the city.The study found that local social relations based on kinship provide many substantial supports for business farmer in the beginning, such as the funds, venues, Industry information, and labor resources needed by the business activities. But along with the time increases of the business farmer in the city and other reasons, the role of the local social network reduced gradually, and the power of the urban social network has been prominent.Although local social network provide many substantial supports for business farmers, their social network has also been gradually changed with the increasing length of business farmers living in the city. By using specific ways of operation such as gifts, Unconventional commodities trading, rebates, reciprocity and small favors, they established and consolidated urban network with urban management, market management, and other business customers. The establishments of urban social networks, as the main origin of the business farmer’s material and spiritual support, make a stable business environment, information exchange, expand their business to city services, and support their business activities smoothly.
