The thesis is based on the guidance of Marxist historical views. The methods of document analysis and comparative research are used in this essay. On basis of arranging, analyzing and summarizing large amounts of material, the essay tries to examine the opium policy that Japanese invaders carried out in Northeast China during the falling times, and to reveal the opium policy's effect on Japanese invasion of China. It is of far-reaching practical and historical significance to alert people to remember the lessons of history and to safeguard the normal development of Sino-Japanese relations. This thesis is divided into four chapters consisted of abstract, preface, text, notes, and references. The first chapter describes Japanese opium business before the September 18th Incident in 1931. In modern times, western powers used opium and other drugs to open the locked door of China and caused great harm. Through the implementation of the policy about forbidding opium gradually in Taiwan, Japanese invaders realized opium's effect in external aggression. In Japan's invading process, it established smuggling networks while having profiteered through drugs smuggling in Northeast China, which laid the foundation of carrying out the opium policy publicly. The second chapter focuses on the process of the opium policy that the Japanese invaders carried out in Northeast China. After the September 18th Incident, the opium policy was launched by invaders to maintain its colonial rule, to solve the financial difficulties and to weaken people's anti-Japanese strength in Northeast China. The opium policy in the Northeast China included three periods from 1931 to 1945: the system of opium monopoly,"10-year Prohibition of Opium"and wartime opium policy. During falling time of Northeast China, the opium policy has always been an important component in Japanese invaders predatory policy of colonial rule, while having been changed to adjust to Japan's invading process. The third chapter shows the purpose of the opium policy Japanese invaders carried out and its consequences. The invaders used the opium policy serving two purposes: First is to grab money to make up for the shortage of military costs and to provide financial support to enlarge invasion. Second is to destroy people's health and anti-Japanese strength to maintain its colonial rule. The Japanese invaders used the opium as an infamous weapon to achieve its ulterior purpose. People in Northeast China had been brought into great sufferings. The opium policy also had bad influence on the Japanese invader who had been unanimously condemned by international communities. The notorious opium policy was also one of the war crimes which the Japanese invaders were on trial for.The fourth chapter discusses the essence of Japan's opium policy and profound historical lesson left to people. From 1895 to 1945, as an important tool, the opium policy had been playing a very important role in the Japanese aggression against China. As a part of the Japan's policy of aggression, the opium policy was a large-scale war crime carried out as a national policy. To disclose the opium policy and its damage during Japan's occupation in Northeast China and to sum up historical experiences and lessons can safeguard the normal and healthy development of Sino- Japanese relations, enable Chinese people to remain vigilant staying away from drugs, and ensure the harmony and stability of our great country.
