This paper aims to reveal the images in T.S.Eliot's masterpiece "The Waste Land" and the symbolic meaning of the poem itself, so as to explore the general symbolic art of the poem by combining with the representative Western Symbolist and their symbolic theory and the symbolic images analysis about the poem.This article is divided into five parts, the introduction introduces the research survey about symbolism, the academic thought of Eliot and the symbolic meaning of "The Waste Land", points out the research significance of the overall symbolic art of the poem. Chapter one sorts out the historical development of symbolic art, introduces Eliot's academic theory and poetry, dissects the overall symbolic art of the poem by analyzing the prototype image of the "wildness". Chapter two researches the death image, exposes the symbolic meaning of the poem by the images of wilt and death and regeneration after death. Chapter three discusses the sexual and erotic images, explores the symbolic poetry from the aspects of the causes of wilderness, the meaning of sex and lust, and modern gender relations in the wildness. Chapter four studies the crisis and salvation idea embodied in the poem, and the failure of salvation by combining the modern consciousness in "The Waste Land".
