Isaac Ilich Levitan was the greatest lyrical landscape painter of the nineteenth century in Russia. He has inherited and developed the fine traditions of Russian landscape painting, devoted his short life to nature and put his own deep and sincere feelings into nature, and maked his works infinite poetry with artistic conception. His lyrical landscape had reached a new horizons, even shined in the whole history of Russia and the European art. He integrated his own life, feelings of attachment to nature and love of the motherland together to create unattainable realism and romanticism of artistic achievements. His rich and various landscape paintings filled with the natural beauty, poetic beauty, and human feelings, reflected the true Russian spirit, and has long been appreciated and referenced for posterity .The thesis is firstly based on the central figure Levitan, highlights the"Lyricism and Poetry"feature of his paintings, combines with the background of Russian society and literature achievements to discuss the landscape of the spiritual connotation,that is to say"Lyricism and Poetry", reaching an identification of value and significance of"Lyricism and Poetry"in Levitan's landscape. Second, in view of the soul painter Corot in Barbizon School and the Impressionists had impacts on Levitan in the light and color, this part discusses and researches on many perspectives such as Levitan's landscape painting language of light, color, composition compared with his contemporary landscape painters. Finally, it illustrates the far-reaching influences of Levitan on Chinese contemporary painters , especially on those who studied in Russia in fifties and sixties of the twentieth century. According to this research, the author intends to make up for the deficiency of domestic and foreign scholars on Levitan and his works, to further improve people's understanding and grasp on Levitan's landscape art.
