| From the Opium War to the "XinChou Treaty" in Modern China, China really is reduced to a semi-colonial semi-feudal nature of the country. The national crisis became unprecedented magnitude in such an upheaval and changes society in modern times. Many patriotic people to join in the struggle salvation, and Liang Qichao was one of them, they explore the root causes of China's national crisis. Liang Qichao explored the reasons for weakness in China thoroughly on the basis of predecessors, summed up the modern Chinese people's deep-rooted bad habits. In "On the Origin of China's weakness", he depicted the servile character of the Chinese and studied the relation between Chinese character and china's weakness. And in the "Xinmin theory", he gradually projected a specific program that transformation the national character, it also was a specific program of Xinmin. Xinmin was to make the Chinese people by slaves, subject to a new type of "national."In this paper, I elaborated the background of Liang Qichao's Xinmin thinking from two aspects that were the historical background and ideological background. Xinmin thinking came into being when capitalism developed rapidly in the world and China gradually reduced to a semi-colonial semi-feudal society. There were three aspects of ideological background: Western origins, the traditional Confucian background and the East. This article elaborated on the necessity of Xinmin and specific programs of Xinmin, and explores positive as well as shortcomings of Xinmin. |
