Toys Intervention To Improve Older People The Possibility Of Loneliness

The population aging problem is a significant stamp of the twenty- first century, and as to China, the rapid process of the aging of the population structure and the life quality of the late years of aged people has gradually become one of the most influential problems of Chinese society. Nowadays, the mental health of the aged people in China can not be judged as optimistic, and the problem of the loneliness of aged people is particularly outstanding.In order to fulfill the diversified demands of aged people, and help them to reduce this pessimistic impact of loneliness, the special appliances designed for them have emerged in time. Since the aged population is increasing rapidly in worldwide, the demand for this type of appliance is no doubt promising. Nevertheless, up to now, most of the appliances designed for aged people only pursue the goal of easiness and convenience, without the consideration of users' self dignity and mental satisfaction. In our opinion, what the aged people actually require is not only the convenience of using the appliance, but the satisfaction of their mind while playing it.The main idea of this dissertation focuses on making the elements of nostalgia, homesickness, emotional communication and experiencing mutual interaction merge into toy design on the base of acknowledging the mental characteristics of aged people's loneliness. We also intend to establish a systematic method to design toys and devise games which should conduce to appease the feeling of solitude in the mind of aged people. Moreover, to support the development of the market of this type of product in theory is also on our agenda.
