Folk Music Heritage And The National College Music Teaching Reform

Folk music plays so important a role in national culture that music major should be responsible for passing on and developing national music culture in universities for nationalities. Tujia music, one important part of China folk music, rich in content, varied in form, vividly mirrors the life and mentation of Tujia people from different angles. With the development of society, however, the original way of transmission it had long adopted is extremely challenged and cannot meet its survival.With the gradual declination and backward way of transmission in Enshi area, Tujia folk music seeks urgently for the new transmitting measures and the talents. What's more, the present society heavily needs performers, instructors and promoters of Tujia folk music. According to the studies on the national higher education and the national cultural relationships, we believe that the national higher education is the major means for national culture's transmission and its growth. Thus we conclude that to solve such problems, it is much critical for us to develop higher education and stress especially on the cultural transmission function of universities for nationalities.As the only college in the southwest of Hubei province, Hubei Institute for Nationalities is responsible for passing on Tujia culture from generation to generation. Actually it does not offer the relevant courses to introduce Tujia folk music. By means of questionnaire on music majors, we learn the students' level on Tujia music and their enthusiasm. At the same time we analyze the existing problems in speciality setup, course arrangement and the teaching resources. Accordingly, we find it inevitable to reform the major of music.This paper suggests the way of reforming in music major in the following aspects: the general thought of running school, objectives and system of cultivating special talents, teaching resources and arrangement of general courses.The objectives are to develop comprehensive talents of music who should have a good command of basic music theory, music knowledge and skills and Tujia music culture and those who are expected to devote themselves to the research of Tujia music and professional performances. Further, we should develop education with characteristics, and establish a talent cultivation mode practically. In the course arrangement, teaching content and teaching means, we should make active and effective use of Tujia music and some other relating materials to foster talents of both researching and mastering Tujia music culture.While deepening teaching reform, we have to better the teaching resources allocation and strengthen the teaching staff construction in order to pave a better way for the speciality reform.
