Fengt'ien Incident was another significant contingency after Anshi's Rebellion during Tang-dynasty.The incident occurred in Fourth-year,October of Jianz-hong which caused by Jingyuan's Rebellion, and experienced several stages such as Fengt'ien Defense War,Li-huaiguang's running away toward Hezhong,Li-sheng's recovering of Ch'ang-an,and ended in July of the next year during which Te-tsung went back to Ch'ang-an.The incident had a profound influence over Tang-dynasty.The paper investigated some problems systematically, such as the cause of Fengt'ien Incident, the process of the incident, and the influence over Te-tsung's regime, and so on,which based on collecting historical material extensively and referring to predecessors' works comprehensively. The paper have three chapters.Chapter one mainly explored the reasons of Fengt'ien Incident. The incident appeared to be caused by some sudden affairs on the surface, but in fact it had a profound social background, which linked with the cutting-fan war especially. The cutting-fan war launched by Te-tsung was massive, which was difficult for the government to bear the fiscal burden, and Te-tsung had to reduce expenditure which triggered dissatisfaction from the troops stationed in Jingyuan.Another reason of the incident was that Tang Dynasty trying to impose taxation on businessmen and the public excessively, which resulted in complaint greatly. From the military point of view,Te-tsung had no choice but to send lots of Shence Troops, and in turn Jingyuan, and Fengxiang and Shuofang's military strength can not be restricted, which resulted in destroying the military defense system constructed jointly by local forces and Shence Troops in the Northwest region during Dai-zong's period. The last reason was that the government gave little reward to Jingyuan Troops which intensified the contradictions between the government and Shence Troops and brought about their rebellion eventually.Chapter two revealed the truth of Fengt'ien Incident.According to the process and the change of contradiction subjects, the whole incident went through three stages. The first stage was Fengt'ien Defense War.The second stage was that Li-huaiguang ran away toward Hezhong. The last stage was that Li-sheng recovered Ch'ang-an city. After the beginning of Jingyuan's Rebellion,Fengtian Defense War broke out and the main force was Youzhou's Troops because the rebels supported Chu Tz'u who was the commander of Youzhou's Troops.Te-tsung was sieged by rebels in Fengtian for more than forty days and the war was very brutal and the disparity between the strength of the two sides was so obvious.Tang government was in a very dangerous situation. At last, thanks to Li-huaiguang,the rebels were to be defeated and Fengtian city was liberated.Since then Chu Tz'u and his army were more and more weaker, meanwhile, nearly 100,000 troops rounded Ch'ang-an city but they had no thought to fight. The contradiction between Shence Troops and Shuofang Troops was more and more intense and Te-tsung could not control the two parties and had to move to Xingliang State,at the same time Li-huaiguang had to run away toward Hezhong. After Li's runaway,Te-tsung intended to depend on Hunjian and Tubo to recover Ch'ang-an city, but because of the withdrawal of Tubo reinforcements,he had to use Licheng whom not be trusted to complete the task.Chapter three expatiated on the influence of Fengt'ien Incident over the Te-tsung's late regime. The incident made Te-tsung to change his province policy, which creates the conditions for the preliminary settlement of the Hebei Province, and Li-xilie who was in Huaixi also eventually found that himself had been isolated,Fengt'ien Incident did not continually deteriorate the situation,on the contrary, the war played a positive role.At the same time, the incident made some provinces which originally took orders from the central as Hedong,Huainan and Liangzhe came into being "independent captive tendency",but because the development of the situation and the efforts of Te-tsung and his Partners, these provinces didn't go far away, and came back to surrender, which was the basis of solving problems such as economic and border crisis in the beginning of Zhenyuan Regime. At the same time,Fengt'ien Incident and the war launched toward Li-huaiguang,not only broke the defense system of the Northwest region which had been constructed since Dai-zong period, but also made the military forces of Tang government in this region greatly weakened, and there was no obstacle to make the Tibetan go in directly and to threat Ch'ang-an city.Of course,Fengt'ien Incident made the North-west local military blocs,in particular the military forces of Shuofang was greatly weakened, which gave Te-tsung a great chance to remerge some military forces in Northwest region.Since then Te-tsung expanded Shence Troops to control the region entirely. There are several distinctive features of this paper.First,it is this paper to see Fengt'ien Incident as an integrative affair for the first time and takes the military battle between central government and local government as lord line to study the reasons, the process and its influences over Te-tsung's late regime.Second,in the process of studing the incident, the writer puts forward some new views on Li-huaiguang's runnawy toward Hezhong and Li-sheng's recovering Chang-an,and so on.Third, compared with predecessors' works, this paper have made some progresses in researching this topic, the writer expresses some new viewpoints concerning the influence of Fengt'ien Incident from positive and negative aspects.
